Here at the backyard farm we don’t get ready for winter so much as getting ready for the rainy season. We’ve brought in the barbecues and patio furniture, stacked wood into the screened porch, and closed the vents in the foundation.
Today we harvested another large basket of tomatoes; some read and many green. There’s not much sun or heat left to ripen them so I thought I’d pick a bunch and see if they’ll ripen in the garage. I left a bushel or more of fruit on the plants and figured I would give them another week and see if any more start to blush.
We also harvested several sugar pumpkins and a lovely green winter squash. I don’t remember the name of it, but the seeds came from a squash that we baked last winter.
The apples are also ready so Noah and I picked a bushel. We peeled and sliced enough to fill the dehydrator trays and made the rest into applesauce.
